Former Presbyterian College head football coach Tommy Spangler will return to the program as its defensive coordinator, coach Harold Nichols announced Friday.

Spangler, Presbyterian's head coach for six seasons from 2001-06, will assume his new role on March 1.

Spangler spent 10 seasons at Presbyterian the first time around, first as an assistant coach from 1997-2000 and then while he guided the Blue Hose to a 42-24 record which stands as the highest winning percentage (.571) among the school's 14 head football coaches.

"I've been coaching for close to 30 years and the best 10 of those were spent at PC," Spangler said.

Spangler spent the last six seasons as defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech. He also spent 10 seasons as an assistant at Georgia Southern from 1987-96, including two Division I-AA (now FCS) national title seasons.
