Former Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli highlighted Monday's first-round winners at the inaugural Shenzhen Open.

The second-seeded Bartoli, of France, blew past wild card Wing-Yau Chan of Hong Kong 6-1, 6-0 on the hardcourts at Shenzhen Longgang Tennis Center.

In other action involving seeds, No. 5 Klara Zakopalova whipped fellow Czech Andrea Hlavackova 6-1, 6-1, No. 6 Chinese favorite Peng Shuai drubbed British qualifier Anne Keothavong 6-4, 6-0, and No. 8 Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia vanquished Romanian Alexandra Cadantu 6-3, 6-1.

Chinese wild card Duan Ying-Ying straight-setted 42-year-old Japanese qualifier Kimiko Date-Krumm 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.

Other winners were Japan's Ayumi Morita, American Julia Cohen, Taiwan's Kai- Chen Chang, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, and Swiss qualifier Stefanie Voegele, who will battle Bartoli in the round of 16.

In some other opening-round action on Tuesday, top-seeded Chinese star Li Na will encounter Luxembourg's Mandy Minella and former No. 1 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia will face American qualifier Jessica Pegula.

This event serves as a tune-up for the Australian Open, which starts January 14.
