Inter Milan revealed Tuesday that the club has sent Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder home for Serie A's winter break despite having one league game to go before the turn of the new year.

Sneijder has not featured for the Nerazzurri since September due to a contract dispute, igniting speculation that Inter will offload the playmaker during the January transfer window.

Midfielder Philippe Coutinho was sent home by Inter as well, though it is unclear whether his dismissal indicates a similar rift with the club.

"It was the last training session of 2012 at the Angelo Moratti centre for Philippe Coutinho and Wesley Sneijder today," a statement on Inter's official website read on Tuesday. "The two Nerazzurri, at the behest of the club and head coach Andrea Stramaccioni, will rejoin their families for Christmas from tomorrow."

Inter welcomes Genoa to the San Siro on Saturday before returning to action the first weekend of January.
