Sampdoria announced on Monday that the club has fired manager Ciro Ferrara and replaced him with Delio Rossi.

Ferrara took charge of Sampdoria prior to the start of the season after the club gained promotion under the guidance of Giuseppe Iachini.

But after leading the team to three successive wins early in the campaign, Ferrara has come under fire after a seven-match losing skid has seen the club drop down the table.

The move comes just one day after Sampdoria's 3-1 defeat at Catania, which leaves the club three points clear of the relegation places, while director of sport Pasquale Sensibile and technical coordinator Domenico Teti both turned in their resignations.

Rossi had success as manager of Lazio as he led the club to a third-place finish in 2007 and the Coppa Italia title in 2009.

His first match in charge of Sampdoria will come at home against Lazio on Saturday.
