Aston Villa striker Darren Bent will be out of action for the rest of December after sustaining a hamstring injury in Villa's 4-1 League Cup victory over Norwich City in midweek.

Bent lasted only 35 minutes in Tuesday's match before limping off and being replaced by Andreas Weimann, who went on to score twice in the win.

The injury won't help Bent's place in Villa's pecking order as the England international has fallen behind Christian Benteke in manager Paul Lambert's side, with Bent featuring in only two games since the end of October.

"He went for a scan on Wednesday and he has got a problem with his hamstring which will keep him out for a few weeks," Lambert said.

"I think a few weeks. Maybe four weeks, I'd say, before we see him back."

Bent has been linked with a January move to QPR and has scored two goals in 10 Premiership appearances this season.
