Morehead, KY – Morehead State University's football program promoted long-time assistant Rob Tenyer to its head coaching position on Thursday.
Tenyer, the 14th head coach in school history, has served as an assistant the past 12 seasons, including the last two as offensive coordinator under Matt Ballard, who was fired last month after 19 seasons.
"Rob earned this opportunity, it wasn't handed to him," Morehead State athletic director Brian Hutchinson said. "He has always exhibited tremendous passion for our program, and when I began to think about who should lead it, it became evident that Rob had the requisite experience and plan to do so. I was particularly impressed with his preparation and vision for our team's success."
Tenyer has coached the running backs in all 12 years with the Eagles. He also was the special teams coordinator for four seasons and had stints as receivers coach, strength and conditioning coordinator and equipment coordinator.
With Tenyer coordinating the offense the last two seasons, the unit set 29 school records. He also worked with the special teams, where seven university standards were established this season, when the Eagles went 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the Pioneer Football League.
Tenyer was on the MSU staff for four consecutive PFL South Division championships from 2002-05.
He also served as an assistant coach at Centre College from 1998-2000 and graduate assistant at California University (Pa.) from 1996-97. He worked as a player/coach with a professional team in Landsberg, Germany, in 1996.
