The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Eli Whiteside off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

It's the third time this offseason the 33-year-old backstop has shifted teams due to the waiver wire. After completing the 2012 season with the San Francisco Giants, Whiteside was claimed by the Yankees on Nov. 5, then taken by the Jays on Dec. 3.

In 208 games over five seasons with the Orioles and Giants, Whiteside has hit .215 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles and 43 RBI.

Texas also announced the signing of infielder/outfielder Brandon Snyder to a minor league deal with an invitation to major league spring training.

Snyder was non-tendered in November, after hitting .277 with three homers and nine RBI in 40 games for the Rangers a season ago.
