Michael Murray and Sterling Smith put together double-doubles as Coppin State topped Maryland-Baltimore County 80-61 Wednesday night in a nonconference showdown.

Murray tallied game highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Smith had 13 points and 12 boards. The duo's work on the glass helped Coppin State win the rebound battle 41-31.

Patrick Cole added 13 points and Charles Ieans 11 for the Eagles (2-8).

Ryan Cook led UMBC (2-9) with 17 points, while Brett Roseboro added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Coppin State took a 41-30 lead into halftime after hitting 59.3 percent (16 of 27) of its shots in the first half, including 3 of 7 beyond the arc. The sharpshooting cooled in the second half, as the team dipped to 38.7 percent (12 of 31), but the Eagles outscored the Retrievers 18-8 in the paint and 17-6 off turnovers as they continued to build the lead.
