Celtic's lead atop the Scottish Premier League table was extended to three points on Saturday after the Hoops claimed a 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Scott Brown gave Neil Lennon's side a first-half lead with the opening goal in the 27th minute.

Joe Ledley and Georgios Samaras put the result beyond any doubt with goals in the 65th and 74th minutes while Cillian Sheridan pulled back a consolation goal for Killie in second-half stoppage time.

Kilmarnock has lost two straight to remain on 19 points, but Celtic improves to 31 points to earn some separation from the second-place position.

Hibernian came into the weekend in second place, but the club dropped to fourth place after its 3-0 loss to Inverness at the Caledonian Stadium on Saturday. Inverness improves to 28 points to climb to second place, one point better than Hibernian.

Sitting between the two clubs in third place is Motherwell, which claimed a 3-2 win over Ross County on Saturday thanks to Keith Lasley's strike nine minutes from time.
