Red Bull New York has acquired defender Kosuke Kimura and a second-round pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft from the Portland Timbers in exchange for allocation money and the MLS Homegrown rights for defender Bryan Gallego, it was announced Monday.

Kimura, 28, played in 17 matches and recorded one goal and one assist for the Timbers this season, joining the club midseason from the Colorado Rapids. He has totaled 134 appearances in the regular season including five goals and nine assists over six seasons.

"Kosuke was a consummate professional and we appreciate his contributions to the club," said Gavin Wilkinson, Timbers general manager. "We wish him well in New York."

In exchange for Kimura, Portland gains the first right of refusal in signing Gallego, the former Red Bulls Academy player. The 19-year-old is a central defender for University of Akron and could follow his former college coach, Caleb Porter, to the Timbers should the club sign the promising youngster.
