Hoffenheim parted ways with head coach Markus Babbel on Monday and has named reserve team coach Frank Kramer as caretaker boss.

The decision comes after Hoffenheim's 4-1 defeat to Werder Bremen on Sunday which leaves the club in 16th place and having conceded the most goals in the Bundesliga at 36.

Babbel only took over at Hoffenheim this past February, but he managed to win just seven of 29 matches and his team has claimed six points from its last 10 games.

"I have decided, after careful consideration and in consultation with the management and the shareholders, to make a change," said Hoffenheim general manager Andreas Muller.

"Our increasingly threatening situation and the associated negative trends have left me no choice. We must now press the reset button and start over. We all have to work together to get out of this precarious situation."

Kramer's first game in charge will come Friday at Hamburg.
