Meen Whee Kim stays ahead by 1 at Q School

La Quinta, CA – Meen Whee Kim fired a 5-under 67 on Friday to maintain a 1-stroke lead after three rounds of the PGA Tour Qualifying School.

Kim, a 20-year-old from South Korea, has completed 54 holes of this 6-round event at 18-under-par 198.

The top 25 and ties at the end of the tournament will receive PGA Tour cards for 2013, and the next 50, plus ties, will earn Web.com Tour cards. Players are competing for three rounds each on the Stadium Course and the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West.

Kim played the Nicklaus Course on Friday, as did Sweden's Robert Karlsson, who carded a 65. The 11-time European Tour winner is alone in second place at 17- under.

Former Web.com Tour victor Edward Loar moved into third place at minus-16 with a third-round 66.

First-round leader Steve LeBrun, who finished 56th on the Web.com Tour money list in 2012, recorded a 68 on Friday. He is tied for fourth place with Billy Horschel (66) and Vaughn Taylor (69) at 15-under.

Kyle Reifers vaulted up the leaderboard with a 65. He jumped from 23rd into a tie for seventh place with Kris Blanks (67) at 14-under.

Camilo Villegas, a three-time PGA Tour winner, fired a 66. He highlights a group of five tied for ninth place at 13-under.

Erik Compton, who has twice been the recipient of a heart transplant, is 11- under through 54 holes -- good for a 17th-place tie.

Defending Q School champion Brendon Todd is back in this year's field. He has tallied rounds of 70, 69, and 70 to reach 7-under.

Todd appeared in 29 PGA Tour events this season and recorded one top-10 finish -- at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in February, where he tied for ninth.

Kim competes on the Korean Tour and the OneAsia Tour. He captured the Korean Tour's Shinhan Donghae Open title earlier this year.

NOTES: This 6-round marathon goes until Monday ... D.J. Trahan, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, withdrew on Thursday ... He carded rounds of 75 and 73.
