Arizona Cardinals center Lyle Sendlein was placed on injured reserve, ending his season, the team announced Tuesday.

Sendlein sustained a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee on the team's opening possession of Sunday's 31-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams. He played the remainder of the game despite the injury.

The 28-year-old Texas product has been a rock on the Cardinals' offensive line since their remarkable run to the 2008 Super Bowl, playing in 80 consecutive contests prior to Sunday's setback.

Rich Ohrnberger will be elevated to starting center in Sendlein's place and the team also signed center Scott Wedige from the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad.

Wedige re-joins the Cards after signing with team as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois. He spent the preseason with Arizona before being released on Aug. 31.
