The status of Auburn coach Gene Chizik could become official soon.

University President Jay Gogue is expected to make a decision on whether to keep or fire Chizik on Sunday or Monday.

Auburn spokesman Mike Clardy said Sunday the president "is standing by his plan to evaluate coaches after the season." Clardy says he doesn't know what the timetable is.

The Tigers finished a 3-9 season with a 49-0 loss to No. 2 Alabama. Auburn lost all eight Southeastern Conference games two years after winning a national title. It's the worst two-year fall of any Associated Press national champion.

The Tigers lost their final three SEC games by a combined 150-21.

Cam Newton led them to a 14-0 season and the program's first national title since 1957 two years ago.
