Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint was sent to a hospital for surgery soon after sustaining a serious injury to his left leg.

Coach Brady Hoke declined to details after the 23rd-ranked Wolverines beat Iowa 42-17 Saturday.

Toussaint's left leg — between his ankle and knee — snapped gruesomely as he was tackled by two Hawkeyes on Michigan's first possession and he was carted off the field.

The redshirt junior ran for 31 yards on three carries against Iowa, giving him 520 yards rushing in 10 games this season. Toussaint ran for 1,041 yards last year and was starting to regain his form in recent weeks this season.

Michigan will likely start Thomas Rawls next week against rival Ohio State.
