ELON, N.C. – Lucas Troutman scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked seven shots to lead Elon to an 81-72 win over Colgate on Saturday.
Austin Hamilton scored 15 points, dished out six assists and five rebounds for the Phoenix (2-1). Tanner Samson and Jack Isenbarger finished with 12 points apiece.
Elon took a 69-49 lead with 9:07 left in the second half when Tony Sabato scored on a layup. Colgate outscored the Phoenix 19-5 over a span of nearly eight minutes that was capped by Damon Sherman-Newsome's 3-pointer, trimming Elon's lead to six points.
But the Raiders (1-3) were unable to pull closer after Troutman and Hamilton answered with two free throws apiece to push Elon's margin to 10 points.
Mitch Rolls and Sherman-Newsome each scored 13 points for Colgate, which shot 37.9 percent (22 of 58) from the floor.
Elon shot 43.5 percent (27 of 62) from the floor.
