Tarvin Gaines, Darion Rackley and Brian Williams scored 14 points each as Jacksonville State broke open its season opener against Reinhardt in the second half for a 93-63 rout Friday night.

The Gamecocks shot 61.3 percent (19 of 31) in the second half after leading just 37-30 at halftime against the Eagles (1-1), an NAIA team that counted the game as an exhibition.

Trailing 28-27 with 3:08 to go in the first half, Jacksonville State scored the next 10 points.

The Gamecocks turned up the heat in the opening four minutes of the second half, using a 12-3 run to go ahead 49-33, and continued to pull away. They finished the game with 58 points in the paint.

Nick Cook had seven rebounds to lead Jacksonville State on the boards and also blocked three shots.

Quinton Wood scored 19 points to pace Reinhardt.
