Clippers put 10-game win streak on the line versus Cavs

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will put their 10-game winning streak on the line Sunday night when they welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers to Staples Center.

The Clippers haven't lost since Feb. 21 in Memphis and their home winning streak is at five. LA has moved within one game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the second seed in the Western Conference and three behind the Spurs for conference supremacy.

On Friday, the Clippers' win streak reached 10, but not in spectacular fashion. Los Angeles earned a 96-87 decision in Salt Lake City over the Utah Jazz.

It was the first time during the winning streak the Clippers failed to score 100 points.

"We're just trying to win," head coach Doc Rivers said of the streak. "If we win by one, 30, or two points, a win is a win. I just want to keep getting better. I don't focus on 10 in a row. I like the way we're playing."

Blake Griffin scored 20 points with five rebounds and five assists to lead the Clippers. He has scored at least 20 points in 25 consecutive game, which is the second-longest streak in the NBA this season.

Chris Paul recorded 18 points with seven assists and six rebounds, while Matt Barnes and Darren Collison scored 15 and 14, respectively, in the win. Willie Green chipped in 12 points.

The Cavaliers have won the first two on this short road trip, which will wrap up Sunday in LA.

Cleveland bested the Phoenix Suns by nine on Wednesday, then bested the Golden State Warriors, 103-94, on Friday.

Spencer Hawes scored 22 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers. Dion Waiters tallied 18 points, while Luol Deng and Kyrie Irving each added 16 points for the Cavs.

Cleveland outscored the Warriors in the middle periods by a 68-39 margin to take control heading into the fourth quarter. The Cavs led by as many as 16 in the final frame and Golden State never got within nine points.

"I thought we did a nice job making them work, allowing 41 points in the second half," said Cavs coach Mike Brown. "Down the stretch, I thought Dion was good defensively (and) Kyrie was good defensively. There were a lot of individual performances that were fun to watch."

The Cavaliers beat the Clippers in Cleveland on Dec. 7 and have taken three of the last four meetings. The Cavs are also 5-1 in their last six as the visitor in this series.
