Alabama still unanimous No. 1; top four unchanged

New York, NY – Alabama remained a unanimous choice as the top-ranked team in college football, according to the latest Associated Press poll.

The Crimson Tide kept their dream of a second straight national championship alive Saturday with a 21-17 win at LSU. Alabama received all 60 first-place votes and 1,500 points from a nationwide media panel for the second straight week.

Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame -- all coming off victories on Saturday -- kept their places from second through fourth. The Fighting Irish had the most difficult time on Saturday, topping Pittsburgh 29-26 in triple-overtime.

LSU dropped from fifth to ninth after the loss at home on Saturday, while Ohio State and Georgia each moved up and are tied for the fifth spot. Florida is seventh, followed by Florida State, LSU and Clemson.

The second 10 consists of Louisville, South Carolina, Oregon State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Stanford, UCLA, Nebraska, Louisiana Tech and Texas -- the last two tied for 19th. UCLA made the biggest jump within the poll, vaulting eight places from 25th after a 66-10 pounding of Arizona.

Southern California, Mississippi State, Toledo, Rutgers and Texas Tech are the last five teams ranked. USC tumbled three places from 18th after its 62-51 loss to Oregon, while Texas Tech dropped five spots from 20th after a 31-22 setback to Texas.

Texas is new to the poll this week, as are Toledo and Rutgers. Texas was No. 15 in the preseason and reached as high as 11th before finally tumbling out of the rankings in early October. Toledo has won eight straight games since a season-opening overtime loss at Arizona and garnered some attention a few weeks ago by handing a ranked Cincinnati squad its first loss, while Rutgers was ranked for five weeks before falling out of the poll last week following its first loss at the hands of Kent State.

West Virginia, Boise State and Arizona dropped out this week. West Virginia was ranked fifth in early October, but has lost three straight and was 23rd last week before a 39-38 overtime loss to TCU. Boise State was 19th last week and dropped a 21-19 decision at home against San Diego State on Saturday, while Arizona's humbling loss at the Rose Bowl ended the Wildcats' one-week stay at No. 24.

Next weekend's matchups of ranked teams includes two from the SEC. Alabama will be home to face Texas A&M and Mississippi State will try to avoid a third straight loss to a ranked team when it travels to LSU. Also, Stanford hosts Oregon State in the Pac-12.
