Naples, Italy – Napoli is a team that is not only coming off two successive losses this past week, but as the club gets ready for the arrival of Chievo on Sunday, a match-fixing scandal also hangs over its head.
A 2-0 defeat at Juventus last weekend handed Napoli its first Serie A defeat, and the club followed that up by losing 3-1 at Dnipro in the Europa League on Thursday.
But things have gotten worse as it was revealed on Friday that Napoli is being investigated by the Italian football federation over match-fixing allegations.
Former goalkeeper Matteo Gianello has been accused of attempting to fix the outcome of Napoli's Serie A match at Sampdoria in 2010, while defenders Gianluca Grava and Paolo Cannavaro failed to report the incident after having been approached.
Napoli sits in second place in the league, three points back of Juventus, and faces a Chievo side near the bottom of the table.
Three points is the goal on Sunday, but the club now faces a potential point deduction that could impact its standing in the table.
Juventus visits top-half side Catania, Lazio, which sits in third place and has won its last three games in league play, travels to Fiorentina, while Inter Milan has won four on the bounce and tries to keep that momentum going against Bologna.
On Saturday, the bottom two sides in Serie A meet up as Siena hosts Palermo and AC Milan takes on Genoa with the Rossoneri sitting in the bottom half of the league.
Sampdoria hosts Cagliari, mid-table sides Torino and Parma square off at the Stadio Olimpico, Atalanta visits Pescara and Roma entertains Udinese.
