The Baltimore Ravens placed linebacker Ray Lewis on injured reserve with a designation to return.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh was quoted on the club's Twitter account, saying, "We're going to keep the door open."

Lewis is having surgery Wednesday on his right triceps, which he tore during Sunday's 31-29 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

The 17-year veteran out of Miami-Florida has totaled 57 tackles and one sack this season.

Also on Wednesday, linebacker Terrell Suggs came off the physically unable to perform list and practiced for the first time this season.

Suggs, the 2011 NFL defensive player of the year, has been recovering from an offseason Achilles tendon injury.

The Ravens now have a three-week window to evaluate Suggs in practice before he must be signed to the active roster or placed on injured reserve.
