West Ham striker Ricardo Vaz Te will be out three months after shoulder surgery, the English Premier League club announced Tuesday.

Vaz Te, 26, dislocated his shoulder in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal before the break for international matches. The Portuguese striker had surgery Monday, and will now be out for the rest of the year.

"There would have been a slightly quicker option to get him back but we would have been unsure on the stability of the shoulder and it could have been more susceptible to dislocate again," West Ham manager Sam Allardyce said.

Vaz Te scored the match-winner against Blackpool in the promotion playoff last season, sending West ham back to the top flight. He has a goal and two assists in seven matches this season.
