Las Vegas, NV – Ryan Moore closed with a 5-under 66 on Sunday to win the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open by one shot.
Moore, who won for the second time on the PGA Tour, finished at 24-under 260.
The Las Vegas resident set the tournament's 72-hole scoring record with his total of 260. Kevin Na established the old mark of 261 last year.
"It was an unbelievable week. I've had such great support, a bunch of family and friends out here. You know, when I won the Wyndham (in 2009), there was no one with me," Moore said in a televised interview.
"And I got about 35 or 40 people here with me this week, so this has been a really special week."
Brendon de Jonge, who shared the third-round lead with Moore and Jonas Blixt, closed with a 4-under 67 to take second at minus-23 at TPC at Summerlin.
Blixt managed a 70 to end alone in third at 20-under-par 264.
Jason Day fired a 7-under 28 on the front nine to set front-side scoring record, but double-bogeyed the last to post 65. He grabbed fourth at minus-18, while Bill Lunde shot 66 to end alone in fifth at 15-under 269.
Blixt bogeyed the first, and could not catch up to Moore and de Jonge after that.
There was an early 2-stroke swing at the third as de Jonge failed to save par from a greenside bunker, while Moore rolled in a birdie effort from off the green.
At the fourth, de Jonge drained a 24-footer for birdie to get within one. Moore answered with a 6-foot birdie putt at five, but he gave that shot right back at the sixth.
Moore's 7-foot birdie effort at the seventh pushed him two clear again, but that lead lasted one hole. He stumbled to a bogey at No. 8 and de Jonge holed a birdie putt from the fringe to forge a tie at 20-under.
Both players birdied the ninth and 11th to get to minus-22, where they were three clear of the field. Once again, the leaders matched birdies, this time at the par-5 13th. They remained tied after pars at 14 and 15.
Moore moved ahead for good at the par-5 16th. His second stopped on the back fringe about 40 feet away. Moore 2-putted for birdie to move to 24-under. Meanwhile, de Jonge found the rough off the tee and could only pitch back to the fairway.
The Zimbabwean dropped his third shot 20 feet from the hole. His birdie effort came up short and he tapped in for par.
"Unfortunately, I just hit a poor tee shot. You've only got to put the ball in the fairway and you would have a mid-iron in there, you know, playing a little bit down breeze," de Jonge said in a interview with Golf Channel.
Moore and de Jonge were inside 20 feet at the par-3 17th, but both 2-putted for par. At the last, de Jonge left himself 30 feet. His birdie putt again came up short and he tapped in for par.
"I hit a couple good putts that didn't go in. I hit a really good putt on 17 that I thought I made," de Jonge said on TV. "I didn't get the ball close enough to the hole coming in."
Moore's second came to rest 12 feet from the cup. He calmly 2-putted to seal the victory.
NOTES: Moore earned $810,000 and moved to 25th on the money list. He stated afterwards that he is done playing competitive golf for the year as his wife is expecting their first child in just over three weeks ... Na, last year's winner, closed with his second straight 70 to end in a tie for 22nd at 10- under 274 ... U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III went 7-over par for the final two rounds to end at even-par 284 ... The PGA Tour heads to California next week for the Frys.com Open, where Bryce Molder was a playoff winner over Briny Baird last year.
