Alabama's C.J. Mosley has become the top-ranked Crimson Tide's latest star linebacker.

He has just done it with a different style from predecessors like Rolando McClain, Dont'a Hightower and Courtney Upshaw.

The athletic Mosley has excelled the past three seasons when Alabama has five defensive backs on the field in likely passing situations.

Coach Nick Saban says Mosley has improved against the run but is especially strong in coverage. Saban says Mosley has been the most productive player on the nation's No. 1 scoring defense.

Mosley's 39 tackles is 15 better than Alabama's No. 2 tackler, linebacker Nico Johnson. He scored for the third time on an interception return in the opener against Michigan.

Mosley also had a pick in the national championship game.
