The South Dakota State and Iowa State football teams will meet in both teams' 2018 season opener.

The contest will take place at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, on Sept. 1, 2018. ISU has defeated the Jackrabbits in three previous meetings in the series, which began in 1952. The Cyclones won the last meeting at home, 44-17, in 2008.

"We are very excited about the chance to play the Cyclones again and the Jackrabbits will be ready," SDSU coach John Stiegelmeier said. "Our 2008 game in Ames was our first FBS contest of the Division I era. Hopefully, we will be able to perform better than we did that day. I know Coach (Paul) Rhoads has done many great things during his tenure and we will expect the Cyclones to continue to be an excellent football program."

Four of SDSU's future schedules are set with games against FBS opponents: 2013 at Nebraska, 2014 at Missouri, 2015 at Minnesota and 2018 at Iowa State.

This year, in Week 1, the Jackrabbits lost to Big 12 member Kansas, 31-17. They are off to a 2-1 start.
