Pirates DFA Evan Meek

The Pittsburgh Pirates designated reliever Evan Meek for assignment on Monday.

Meek, who last pitched for the Pirates in late July, posted a 6.75 earned run average in 12 appearances this season. He was a 2010 National League All-Star.

Also on Monday, the Pirates recalled infielder Chase d'Arnaud and pitcher Bryan Morris from Triple-A Indianapolis and selected the contract of pitcher Rick VandenHurk from the same club.
