Toronto FC signed defender Doneil Henry to a new contract Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Henry, 19, was the first academy player to sign a contract with Toronto FC and has made 28 appearances, including 17 starts, for the club. He made his debut in 2010, played 10 games last year, and has made 17 appearances this season.

"I'm very proud to re-sign with Toronto FC and ensure I will remain here for the next few years," Henry said. "I have learned a lot in my time with the academy and in the first team."

Henry also has experience in the Canadian Championship and CONCACAF Champions League. He played for Canada at various youth international levels, and earned his first senior cap earlier this month.

"This is another positive step for our football club, signing another promising young defender for the long term," Toronto FC coach and director of soccer operations Paul Mariner said. "Doneil possess a great amount of skill and the scary part is he is only 19 years old.

"He has proven to be an important part of our club and will continue to be for years to come."
