Windsor, ON – Alan McLean weathered an up-and-down back nine on Sunday, but came away with his first Canadian Tour victory at the Windsor Roseland Charity Classic.
McLean shot a 4-under 66 on Sunday and won by two strokes at 10-under 270.
Hugo Leon also had a 66 in the final round and took second at minus-8.
Third-round co-leader Michael Gligic struggled to a 1-over 71 on Sunday and fell into a tie for third place with Garrett Frank, who shot a 69. The pair finished at 6-under par.
McLean played the front side at Roseland Golf Club in 2-under par, thanks to three birdies and a single bogey.
Starting at 11, McLean went on a birdie run, including a 2-putt at the par-5 12th and a chip-in at 14. All totaled, McLean made four in a row and got to 12-under par.
Things got interesting immediately after the birdie streak. McLean double bogeyed the 15th and couldn't save par from a bunker at the 16th. He lost three strokes in two holes, but responded with a birdie at No. 17.
McLean never lost the lead and parred 18 to earn the victory.
Danny Sahl carded a 4-under 66 and finished in fifth at 5-under 275.
Will Strickler was the other third-round leader and was in front at the turn, but disaster struck on the back nine. He bogeyed 10, doubled 11, and made three more bogeys.
Strickler finished with a 3-over 73 and shared sixth with Brandon Harkins (65), Wes Heffernan (71) and James Allenby (72) at 4-under par.
NOTES: McLean pocketed $16,000 for the victory...The Canadian Tour remains in Ontario next week for the Canadian Tour Championship in Toronto, where Stuart Anderson won in 2011.
