The Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday signed catcher Jeff Mathis to a two-year extension with a club option for a third.

The pact is slated to pay the backstop $3 million for the duration with a $1.5 million value on the option in 2015.

The 29-year-old is hitting .215 with six home runs, nine doubles and 19 RBI in 46 games, and has committed just one error in 305 total chances for a fielding percentage of .997.

In an eight-year pro career with the Angels and Jays, the Florida native holds a .196 average and .988 fielding percentage in 472 games.
