The United States' Steven Lopez, part of the Lopez taekwondo family, was knocked out of the 80-kilogram draw Friday.

Lopez dropped his opener against top-seeded Ramin Azizov of Azerbaijan, and needed Azizov to reach the gold medal final in order to make the repechage round.

However, Azizov lost to Italy's Mauro Sarmiento, knocking Lopez out of contention for bronze.

Lopez, whose three siblings are also elite taekwondo competitors, is a two- time gold medalist and earned bronze four years ago in Beijing. His sister Diana and brother Mark also won medals, a bronze and a silver respectively, in 2008.

In London, though, Steven was eliminated a day after Diana finished seventh in the women's 57kg division Thursday.
