The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled pitcher David Carpenter from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Carpenter will take the vacant roster spot created Thursday when infielder Brett Lawrie went on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique muscle.

The 27-year-old right-hander was acquired as part of the 10-player trade with Houston on July 20. He made 30 relief appearances earlier this season with the Astros and posted a record of 0-2 with a 6.07 earned run average.

In eight games for Las Vegas, Carpenter was 0-1 with a 1.93 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings.
