Luis Scola had 17 points and Argentina held off Brazil, 82-77, in the men's basketball quarterfinals.

Carlos Delfino and Manu Ginobili added 16 points apiece for Argentina, which finished third in Group A during the preliminary round and will face the United States in Friday's semifinals.

Marcelinho Huertas and Leandro Barbosa each had 22 points to lead Brazil, which went 4-1 in Group B during the preliminary round. Alex Garcia donated 10 points.

Argentina took control of the game after falling behind by three, 26-23, after one quarter.

In the second stanza, Argentina outscored Brazil by a 23-14 margin to take a 46-40 lead into the half.

Argentina used a 14-2 run during the middle stages of the third period to create some distance. Juan Gutierrez capped the surge with a jumper to give Argentina a 61-46 edge with 2:36 left.

Brazil trailed by 10, 64-54, after three quarters, but used a 9-0 spurt late in the fourth to get within two. Garcia's slam cut the gap to 70-68 with 4:21 remaining.

But Pablo Prigioni responded with a jumper for Argentina, and after Garcia turned the ball over, Andres Nocioni made a layup to make it a 74-68 contest.

Argentina went 8-of-12 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the victory.
