Dundee United rolls over Hibernian

Dundee, Scotland – Johnny Russell scored just three minutes into the match as Dundee United opened its Scottish Premier League season with a 3-0 win over Hibernian on Sunday at Tannadice Park.

Jon Daly and Michael Gardine added late second-half goals for Dundee United as it escaped with the top spot in the league following the opening week of play.

Hearts and Celtic also won their opening games Saturday, but Dundee United has the top spot on goal differential.

Dundee United finished fourth last season and, with Rangers out of the SPL for the foreseeable future, is one of the clubs that hopes to challenge Celtic for the title.
