Sporting Kansas City signed midfielder and former Barcelona youth product Oriol Rosell to a multi-year contract Thursday.

Rosell, 20, spent six years with Barcelona, including with the famed La Masia academy and the Barca B team.

"Oriol comes from arguably the best soccer school and environment a player can be a part of in Barcelona," said Sporting manager Peter Vermes. "Adding him as another midfielder will help raise the bar on a daily basis within our roster and add a lot depth in the middle for us."

Rosell was signed by Real Madrid at age 12, and played at the youth level for Espanyol before joining Barcelona in 2006. He played for the Barcelona B team last season in Spain's second division.

"I'm very happy to be here and I'm eager to start working with the team. With my hard work, I hope to help the club achieve the objectives that we are focused on," Rosell said.

"I am very impressed by the support and I want to make the fans happy with my game."
