Cameroon's Thomas Essomba won his opening bout Tuesday as the men's light flyweight draw began at the London Olympics.

Essomba, ranked No. 4 in the world, slid past Morocco's Abdelali Daraa in a 13-10 decision. He lost in the first round four years ago in Beijing, but is on to the second round, where he will face Ireland's Paddy Barnes.

The men's light welterweight draw also had first-round bouts Tuesday, and world No. 2 Munkh-Erdene Uranchimeg of Mongolia out-pointed Czech Zdenek Chladek by a 20-12 margin.

Colombian Cesar Villarraga Aldana upended Cuban Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo in another first-round light welterweight bout, and will next face top-seeded Everton dos Santos Lopes of Brazil.
