South Korea's women's archery team is unquestionably the world's best. It is also wearing fantastic hats that are reminiscent of a certain literary figure.
Archery's a funky sport -- you can see the archer on the left is also wearing a cool shoulder strap, and the Koreans had on some loud kicks and track pants, while their Chinese counterparts have some more sedate -- but it took me a minute to figure out where I'd seen a look like that before.
Then I realized it: it's the same look, with bucket hats and big glasses, that Johnny Depp sports on the poster for the film version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Except this time it's on the team that has won seven straight gold medals in the team archery competition, adding another on Sunday.
I do wonder what Hunter S. Thompson would make of Olympic archery, though.
