The hosts have their first medal of the 2012 Summer Olympics. On a day with weather that could best be described as "miserably British," Great Britain's Elizabeth Armitstead won silver in the Women's Cycling Road Race, narrowly losing out on a sprint for the finish line to Marianne Vos. Russia's Olga Zabelinskaya took the bronze.
For the Dutch Vos, it's her second Olympic gold medal after winning the Points Race in Beijing.
Much like the men's competition on Saturday, a breakaway decided the race, with the three riders attacking early and then holding off the peloton over the 87-mile ride. The full results can be found at the London 2012 site.
Shelley Olds was the top American finisher, coming in seventh. Teammate Kristin Armstrong, who was often attacking off the front of the peloton, was 35th.
For Britain, which took home a total of 14 cycling medals at Beijing (including eight gold), Armitstead's silver is the first of what it expects to be many medals in cycling at the Summer Games, especially after the country went 1-2 in the recent Tour de France (Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome, respectively).
