The Women's 48 kg Judo event finished up on Saturday with Brazilian judoka Sarah Menezes bringing home to gold medal. Menezes defeated defending Olympic champion Alina Dumitru of Romania in the gold medal round, as both judoka struggled to get good grips and fought on the defensive. Menezes was able to score with both a seoi-nage and a tomoe-nage in the match.

Menezes taking home the gold was a bit of a surprise, as she finished 19th in the 2008 Beijing games, but was able to work her way through the 48 kg tournament to win gold.

Hungary's Eva Csernoviczki beat Japan's Tomoko Fukumi in the bronze medal B round, winning with a ko-soto-gari. Belgium's Charline van Snick took home the second bronze medal, defeating Argentina's Paula Pareto

Gold Medal: Sarah Menezes, Brazil
Silver Medal: Alina Dumitru, Romania
Bronze Medal A: Eva Csernoviczki, Hungary
Bronze Medal B: Charline van Snick, Belgium
