Suffering from a left shoulder strain, Orioles second baseman Robert Andino was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.

Andino will miss the next 3-4 weeks of action due to the injury he suffered in the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers when he landed awkwardly after diving for a ball off the bat of Tigers catcher Alex Avila.

Andino, the Orioles' Opening Day starter at second base, is hitting .230 with five home runs and 21 RBI this season.

To take Andino's roster spot, the team recalled pitcher Zach Britton from Triple-A Norfolk. He began the season on the DL, was activated on June 6 and had been pitching in Norfolk.

Also on Tuesday, the team selected the contract of pitcher Brad Bergesen from Norfolk, optioned pitcher Miguel Socolovich to Norfolk and transferred infielder Nick Johnson from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list.
