Baup named new manager of Marseille

Marseille, France – Marseille presented Elie Baup as its new manager on Thursday, as the former Bordeaux, Nantes, St. Etienne and Toulouse manager returned to the sideline following a three-year hiatus.

The 57-year-old was named the French club's new manager after Didier Deschamps stepped down with two years left on his contract. Deschamps is a candidate to become new France national team coach.

Baup had his most successful season as coach in 1999, when he led Bordeaux to the Ligue 1 title. He last coached Nantes in 2008-09.

He signed a two-year contract with Bordeaux.
