The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled pitcher Trevor Bauer from Triple-A Reno to start Thursday against Atlanta.

Bauer was the third overall selection in the 2011 draft, and at 21 years, 164 days, is the third-youngest pitcher to make his first major league start in a Diamondbacks uniform behind Edgar Gonzalez (20 years, 98 days), and Oscar Villarreal (21 years, 127 days) in 2003.

In 16 starts this season between Double-A Mobile and Reno, Bauer compiled an 11-1 record with a 2.23 earned run average, 116 strikeouts and 48 walks.

The righty appeared in four games for the Diamondbacks during spring training and posted a 1-0 mark with a 3.60 ERA, nine strikeouts and one walk.

To make room for Bauer on the roster, the team optioned infielder Josh Bell to Reno. He hit .173 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in 21 games since being recalled on May 21.
