The Detroit Tigers have reinstated catcher Alex Avila from the 15-day disabled list.

Sidelined since June 6 with a strained right hamstring, Avila batted .250 with five homers and 20 RBI in 44 games prior to the DL stint.

The Tigers also recalled pitcher Jacob Turner from Triple-A Toledo to start Thursday afternoon's series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals, while optioning catcher Bryan Holaday and pitcher Luke Putkonen to the Mud Hens.

Turner, the ninth overall pick in the 2009 draft, will make his season debut after compiling a 2-1 record with a 3.43 ERA in seven starts for Toledo this year.

The Missouri native made his major league debut last season, and in three starts -- all at Comerica Park -- went 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA.
