Oakland Athletics first baseman Brandon Moss was named the top player in the American League for the period ending June 17.

Moss batted .348 with three doubles and MLB-highs of five home runs and 10 RBI over six games. He also ranked second in the majors with seven runs scored to capture his first career weekly award.

The former eighth-round pick in the 2002 draft joined Jack Cust as the only Athletic hitters since 2000 to tally five home runs over a four-day span.

Other players considered for the award included Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe, Angels pitcher Ervin Santana and Orioles pitcher Jason Hammel.
