The Texas Rangers have placed pitcher Alexi Ogando on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Ogando suffered the injury while running to first base on a bunt single in the fourth inning of Sunday's 5-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. He left the game immediately.

It was the first start of the season for Ogando, who is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 28 games for Texas this season. He has 35 strikeouts and just seven walks.

To take his place on the 25-man roster, the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Michael Kirkman from Triple-A Round Rock.

Kirkman was 5-1 with a 5.25 ERA in 15 games (eight starts) for Round Rock this year. The 25-year-old is 1-1 with a 4.74 ERA in 29 career appearances for the Rangers.
