The Texas Rangers have placed pitcher Derek Holland on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 6, with left shoulder fatigue.

Holland has pitched to a 5-4 record with a 5.10 earned run average in 12 games, including 11 starts, for the Rangers this season. He picked up the win in his last outing on Tuesday in Oakland.

It will be the 25-year-old lefty's second stint on the DL during his four-year career. He is eligible to return June 21.

To fill the roster spot, Texas purchased the contract of pitcher Tanner Scheppers from Triple-A Round Rock.

Scheppers, who will make his major league debut when he appears in a game, has a 1-2 record with a 3.72 ERA in 25 appearances out of the bullpen for Round Rock this season.

The Rangers also designated pitcher John Gaub for assignment on Thursday to make room for Scheppers on the 40-man roster.
