The Oakland Athletics designated first baseman Kila Ka'aihue for assignment Wednesday, placed pitcher Andrew Carignan on the 15-day disabled list and selected pitcher Evan Scribner and outfielder Brandon Moss from Triple-A Sacramento.

Ka'aihue was batting .234 in 128 at-bats with the A's this season and hit four home runs with 14 RBI in limited action. After getting off to a strong start, he hit just .154 in his last 16 games.

Carignan went on the DL with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow after appearing in 11 games and pitching 9 2/3 innings. He had a 4.66 earned run average, struck out eight and walked 10.

Scribner was 3-0 at Sacramento with a team-leading six saves and 3.31 ERA. Claimed off waivers last October, he had a 7.07 ERA in 10 relief appearances with the Padres last season.

Moss was hitting .286 with Sacramento this year. He was tied for second in the Pacific Coast League with 15 home runs and also drove in 33 RBI in 51 games.
