South Africa has fired coach Pitso Mosimane following a disappointing start to 2014 World Cup qualifying.

South Africa tied Ethiopia, 1-1, on Sunday in its first fixture in Group A of African qualifying, leaving the 2010 World Cup hosts third out of four teams. The Bafana Bafana needed a goal 13 minutes from time to earn the draw.

The top two teams in the group advance to the final stage of qualifying.

Assistant Steve Komphela will coach the squad in its next two matches, against Botswana in a qualifier on Saturday and in a friendly against Gabon.

Mosimane replaced Carlos Alberto Parreira after the World Cup, and posted just a 5-3-7 record in 15 matches in charge.
