Valencia inks Sporting defender Pereira

Valencia, Spain – Valencia has signed Sporting Lisbon defender Joao Pereira, the club announced.

The 28-year-old will join Valencia for a fee of $4.6 million, and he will feature in this summer's Euro 2012 competition for Portugal after being named in manager Bento's squad.

Pereira has spent time with Portuguese sides Benfica and Braga prior to joining Sporting in 2010, and he featured in 16 league matches this past season for a Sporting team that finished the season in fourth place.
