The Carolina Hurricanes and defenseman Jamie McBain have agreed to a two-year contract worth $3.6 million.

McBain will earn $1.7 million in 2012-13 and $1.9 million the following year.

"Jamie is still a very young player who has established himself as an NHL defenseman," said Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford. "He moves the puck well and has shown that he can contribute offensively, especially on the power play."

McBain led all Carolina defensemen in scoring this past season with 27 points in 76 games, posting eight goals with 19 assists. He also led all Hurricane blueliners with five power-play goals.

The 24-year-old Minnesota native has 18 goals and 49 assists for 67 points in 166 NHL games, all with the Hurricanes. He was selected by Carolina in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
