Cleveland, OH – Miami Marlins outfielder Emilio Bonifacio has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained left thumb.
Bonifacio, who leads the majors with 20 stolen bases, was hurt during Friday's game against Cleveland on a head-first slide into second base. He sat out Saturday's contest and is batting .268 in 39 games with six runs batted in.
The Marlins, who also optioned struggling first baseman Gaby Sanchez to Triple-A New Orleans after Saturday's game, have brought up outfielder Chris Coghlan and infielder Donovan Solano from New Orleans.
Coghlan spent the first month of the season with Marlins and hit just .118 in 19 games with four hits in 34 at-bats and two runs batted in. He batted .275 in 16 games for the Zephyrs.
Solano has never appeared in a big league game. He was hitting .262 in 36 games for New Orleans after batting .429 with 18 hits during spring training.
